How to Prepare for Your New Countertop Installation

At this point, you’ve already signed a proposal and are ready to schedule your new countertops. Congratulations on taking this exciting step! Proper preparation ensures a smooth and efficient process. Follow this guide to get ready from the initial template appointment to the final installation.

Step 1: Schedule the Template Appointment

The first step in the process is a template appointment, where our team will take precise measurements and confirm all the technical details for your new countertops.

What to Expect:

  • Mapping out your countertop layout, including cutouts for sinks, cooktops, faucet holes, and accessories like air gaps, air switches, soap dispensers, and filtered or hot water fixtures.
  • Confirming details such as overhangs, edge profiles, and seam placements.

How to Prepare:

  • Ensure All Fixtures Are Onsite: Have all sinks, cooktops, faucets, and accessories that require cutouts onsite during the template appointment.
  • Clear all items from your countertops and surrounding areas to allow unobstructed access.
  • Verify that all cabinets are fully installed, level, and secured.
  • Be available to review and approve layout details during the appointment.

Step 2: Pre-Installation Preparation

Clear the Workspace:

  • Remove all items from your countertops and cabinets.
  • Empty lower cabinets near plumbing or appliances to protect your belongings from vibrations and construction activities.

Plan for Construction Activity:

  • Our team will use plastic sheets and floor coverings to minimize dust and protect your space.
  • While we strive to contain most or all of the dust, feel free to cover any nearby items or furniture you’re particularly concerned about.
  • Expect some construction noise during the process.

Plumbing Disconnection:

  • If we are not performing the plumbing work, all plumbing (including sinks, faucets, and dishwashers) must be disconnected prior to our demo team’s arrival.
  • Need assistance? We offer plumbing disconnection and reconnection services to simplify the process.

Coordinate Other Trades:

  • Delay plumbing, electrical, and appliance installations until after the countertops are in place to avoid complications.

Step 3: Installation Day

Installation day is when your new countertops come to life! Here’s what to expect and how to prepare.

What to Expect:

  • Old countertops will be removed if applicable.
  • Your new countertops will be securely installed, and cutouts for sinks, cooktops, and accessories will be completed onsite as needed.

Tips for Installation Day:

  • Ensure all sinks, faucets, cooktops, and accessories are onsite.
  • Keep the area clear of pets and children for safety.
  • Provide easy access to the installation site.
  • Be available to answer any last-minute questions or concerns.
